What Causes A Cracking Sound In Knee?

Hello, whenever i straighten my leg , there would be a cracking sound in my knee. I can feel the knee cap moving and shifting but it does no exactly hurt when it cracks. only some times, my joint would hurt after a day. I have not injure my knee before. what is the problem with my leg? Thank you.
