What Causes A Dark Brown Discharge In The Periods?

hi, i am 17 years old and on the Microgynon 30 pill and have been for a year in march, my period has been dark brown and string like for the past 2 days, i am sexualy active with my boyfriend of 3 years who i am 100 % sure has not slept with anyone else so i dont think its an STD, could you please advice me on what it could be ?
