What Causes A Delayed Period With Negative HPT?

hi, me and my girl friend had protected sex this month, her periods was suppose to start on 16th-20th of this month, but it has not happened yet, we tried testing through home pregnancy testing kits which gave a negative result, but she is worried now what might be the problem
