Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 82 year old mother feels cold and clammy to the touch. She's wearing a coat inside her home on an 84 degree day. States she is anemic- but takes iron and eats red meat. HAD diabetes- but it went away when she lost weight. Walks and talks fine, but her memory is faltering.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. She is 82 years old and has problems of cold extremities on touch and weakness. She is also having complaints of forgetfulness and loss of memory. All these symptoms should be properly evaluated considering her age. Her blood pressure and pulse rate should be checked. Hypotension in elderly may cause cold extremities. She should be investigated properly with serum electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium and Calcium), blood sugar levels and urine analysis to rule out shock as cause of her symptoms. Take her to a doctor for proper evaluation.
Her forgetfulness could be occurring due to age related cognitive declines. Most of individuals start showing some decline in cognitive functions after 60-65 years of age. MMSE or mini mental status examination can help to rule out any evidence of memory loss. Drugs like Donepezil, Memantin can help to reduce the progression of memory loss. Please visit a doctor for prescription of these medicines.
