What Causes A Feel Of Being Paranoid And Delusional Thoughts With History Of Having Depression?

I have a history of depression and panic attack disorder. Something has changed however over the last 6 months and I find myself having what I would call paranoid or delusional thoughts. I do not know if this is severe depression or another problem. My grandmother had paranoid schizophrenia and I am worried I may have it. I am 45 years old. Female. I am having a problem working ,leaving the house and seeing people in general. my email is YYYY@YYYY . If you are not a real doctor that I cannot find online anywhere please do not waste my time. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The paranoid and delusional thoughts you are experiencing may be related to your depression and anxiety. Depression can manifest in different ways, and paranoid thoughts or delusions can be a symptom of a severe depressive episode. It is also possible that you may be experiencing another mental health disorder such as bipolar disorder or psychotic disorder.

Given your family history of paranoid schizophrenia, it is important to discuss your symptoms with a mental health professional who can evaluate you and provide a diagnosis and treatment plan. It is important to seek help from a mental health professional, as untreated mental health disorders can significantly impact your quality of life and ability to function.

Treatment options for mental health disorders vary depending on the specific disorder and severity of symptoms. Psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both may be recommended. It is also important to take care of yourself by getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating a healthy diet.

If you are feeling unable to cope with your symptoms or are having thoughts of harming yourself or others, it is important to seek emergency help right away. You can call a crisis hotline, go to an emergency room, or contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
