What Causes A Feeling Of Fullness And Heaviness In The Breasts?

I got the mirena iud placed in on may 9, 2016. I have been on the depo provera shot for the last four years up until now. My last shot wore off at the beginning of June. Two days ago, I noticed that my breasts look fuller and feel heavier. And, my nipples look kind of bruised (purple color around edge of the nipples) and are very tender and sore when touched. I was wondering if the mirena was causing my breast problems.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be due to hormonal imbalance caused by the device and the shot however you should get them examined by a gynecologist to rule out any underlying infection or any signs of breast lump. Also get a beta HCG levels test to rule out pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
