What Causes A-fib After Bypass Surgery?

my mother in law just came home from the hospital yesterday. she had two heart valves replaced and a bypass, and they were able to get her out of afib...tonight her heart rate is 129 bpm...is this an issue or is she maybe a little dehydrated a little from being off of fluids??

yes it can be a issue
it can be a normal sinus tachycardia or it can be atrial fibrillation post op

post operative afib is seen almost in 40% patients after prosthetc valve surg and 50% patients after a by pass surgery...so as your mother had got both of them simultaneously chances of a fib particularly increase

though it a very common post op complication can can be taken well care of by giving some antiarytmic medications like amiodarone...initially the dr will give amiodarone parentrally after that they will switch it to medication

just take care that blood thinner which your mother is on as any occluded blood or thrombus can lead to complications of atrial fibrillation

2 d echo cardiography will be done 24 hours and 3 days after surgery that will make image clear
