What Causes A Hard Boney Lump On The Rib?

Hello I have a hard boney lump on my 4th rib and ct scans have shown nothing. It causes me no pain however before it appeared I had pain. It has been there for a good 8 month now but its still there. Is it something and nothing? Its about the size of a golf ball.
