What Causes A Hard Immovable Lump In The Upper Throat?

I have a weird, hard, stationary lump on the right upper side of my throat that moves when I swallow. It s on the side of my throat a little higher than my Adam s apple. It s been there for about a month or so now and hasn t grown, doesn t hurt. I ve searched the internet for weeks and can t find something that matches what I have. I am a 21 year old who s been smoking on and off since i was about 14-16. My main concern is if it s cancer of any sort I am a newly wed and have a 2 year old son and keep breaking down crying cause I can t imagine leaving him. I m currently trying to find a family doctor accepting new patients to get it checked. Could it just be a infection because I have 2 impacted wisdom teeth both on the bottom jaw and they are just like holes with teeth in them. Please help!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it's very immature to feel this much hopeless about it as it can be simple lymph node due to any throat infection.

It can also be some thyroid nodule. Possibilities of benign growths like lipoma also exist.

For reassurance the best possible method is to have a surgical review and get a FNAC or fine-needle aspiration biopsy to know the nature of swelling.

Also, ultrasound of swelling may also reveal its nature. Blood counts may also be done for any discrepancies.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
