What Causes A Hard Lump Around The Carotid Artery Of The Neck Area?

My daughter found a group of hard non-moveable lumps around the carotid artery side of neck on her 7yr old. Going to Dr. tomorrow since I advised her that there are all kinds of cysts, lumps,lymph nodes, and an ultra sound and a physical assessment would help determine if basically it,s malignant versus benign, or if it has something to do w/thyroid etc.

Hi,

This looks very likely to be lymph glands. Cervical glands commonly enlarges in children. Very often the cause is a viral illness of the throat, ear.

So if its not for long time and he is other wise well, we generally treat the infection and wait for few days to settle.

How've if this has been for a long time. If don't settle that out may need further testing including body e of the gland. But mostly it won't be needed.
