What Causes A Hard Lump At The Base Of The Skull?

My son is near two years old and has a knot on the right side on the back of his head close to the bottom of his hair line. I am starting to panic it has been noticed for five days now and hasn t gone down any. I didn t notice in bruising around it and it is hard where most of the knots he has had before were soft with a bruise, but they were always on his forehead. Should I be concerned and have it checked out or am I overreacting?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Lump on back of neck or head could be due to an enlarged lymph node. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and FNAC. FNAC is a procedure wherein the cells are aspirated and stained to know the nature of the cells in aspirate.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
