General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Hard painful bump on leg after an injury indicates Hematoma formation, which indicates collection of blood which changes its hue from blue to purple due to enzymatic break down of accumulated heme. As there is tenderness over the region at particular time period (3 weeks), it suggests possible abscess formation inside the hematoma (unresolved).

Clinical examination with an expert consultant surgeon is mandatory to rule out abscess formation. Prescription of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid, anti inflammatory medications as Diclofenac with serratiopeptidase help in hematoma resolution. If there is absolute and frank pus formation in form of abscess organisation, one has to get incision and drainage procedure of surgery to cure it at earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
