Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Hard Painful Lump Under The Jaws And Fever?
I have 2 children ages 14 (son) and 20 (daughter). Both have had a fever for 7 days, ranging from 99 to 102. neither has a sore throat. Both have fatigue and reduced appetite (some mild diarrhea, no vomiting or nausea). Today my daughter has a hard, painful lump under the center of her jaw that hurts when she moves her head or swallows. I took my son to the Dr. 3 days ago and he thought he had adenovirus and he should be getting over it by now, but he still has a fever today. Any idea what this might be? Should I take them into the urgent care tomorrow?
It could be a swollen lymph node and it indicates infection somewhere in the draining region. You can start a short course of antibiotics empirically. Generally it will settle in four to five days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
