What Causes A High Heart Rate?

What can cause high heart rate considering I have a diagnosis of JRA? I am 37 years old, have had JRA since age 5 and am now experiencing a very fast heart rate. My HR has always been a little high but now it is running between 120 at rest and 168 with minimal activity. All bloodwork is normal (potassium, magnesium, etc), EKG and ECHO are normal. Holter monitor showed normal except for high heart rate. HR has been this way for about 2 1/2 weeks now. Cardium has not helped. As soon as I stand up, blood pressure drops and HR increases. I become short of breath after walking only 10-15 feet. I m not getting answers from Drs and am getting more and more concerned.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the high heart rate is in relation with endocrinopathic effect of circulating auto antibodies affecting conduction system of the heart most likely.

* The baro receptor response also plays a very vital role in the high heart rate in juvenile rheumatoid arthitis patient.

* A cardioselective beta blocker works excellent in this condition to give best results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
