What Causes A Hot Swollen Red Lump At The Injection Site?

My daughter had a flu shot Monday afternoon and tonight I noticed a huge whelp near the site if injection. It is red, swollen, and hot to the touch. She has no problems breathing and there is nothing not one hive, though it is large. She typically reacts this way to a mosquito bite. Should I be concerned?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What swollen lump you have noticed at the injection site appears that it could be an acute inflammatory reaction. It should subside by taking anti-inflammatory analgesic medication such as Ibuprofen with Paracetamol along with application of ice pack over the injection site.
In case it does not respond by 2 days, there might be a possibility of abscess at the injection site, which would require incision and drainage. Kindly consult Surgeon in this regard if it doesn't respond to conservative treatment.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
