What Causes A Itchy Lump And Excess Mucous Secretion Behind Soft Palate Of Mouth?

When I put my thumb into my mouth and feel behind the soft palate, there is a hole (nasopharynx?) with a fleshy lump there. It itches sometimes. Lots of slimy mucus drains from that area, especially when I drink cold water, and it tends to smell offensively when I drink grape juice or sugary beverages, or eat spicy foods. Antibiotics like amoxiclav and methronidazole have not reduced the smell.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain fleshy lump behind soft palate can be secondary to throat infection caused by either bacteria or virus and it can also be due to mucous discharge do sed by Post nasal drip..

But in case if there is a bad smelling discharge after taking spicy and sugary foods it can be due acid reflux leading to reflux of stomach acid into throat that can be a reason for lump formation also..

Treatment can be planned only after diagnosis is confirmed.
So it is better to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and in case of infection antibiotics, painkillers , warm saline gargles and steam inhalation will relieve..

In case of acid reflux antacid, Proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole, lifestyle modifications will help..

As of now do warm saline gargles for soothing the throat and gargle with a flavored mouthwash to mask bad smell..
