Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mum m is in the hospital with severe bleeding in urine. Dr did cystoscope and found a large blood clot in the uretha. There was so much blood that he couldn see a lot, but was able to pass the scope clear to the kidney. She had been taking Coumadin due to a previous bout of PE and levels were 6, brought down to 3. We still don t know where the blood originates from. Where do we go next for answers/ explanations?
Hematuria is due to Coumadin anti-coagualnt side effect as INR was high 6. Usually, it should be kept between 2.0-3.0. Once INR is adjusted, bleeding is likely to stop.
Renal Angiography / CT angiography can locate the site of macroscopic bleeding.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
