What Causes A Large Hematoma On The Thigh?

My son had a large haematoma on his thigh (5cm X 5 cm X 1 cm). It has been there for 6 weeks now and his doctor won t allow him to play sport until it heals. What are the risks if he does play contact sport and it gets knocked. Also is there anything we can do at home to make it heal faster (his doctor has referred him to a physiotherapist which he will start later this week).

it's better to wait till the haematoma resolve ,it can be infected in case of injury .you can apply hot compresses on it at home to help healing fast.
