What Causes A Large Mass On Left Thyroid Gland?

I have a 4 cm mass on my left thyroid lobe. Lymph nodes look normal on ct scan. Should I be really scared? I am 62 and in great health with no symptoms except when my neck swelled up 2 weeks ago. I had the test, but my neck is no longer swollen or sore.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear Greetings
Regarding your experience of a resolved mass in your left thyroid lobe I am suggesting that you have the following differential diagnosis

Thyroglossal cyst
Simple nodular goitre
Cancer of the thyroid

In view of this please do the following test
Thyroid function test
Serum thyroglobulin
Fine needle biopsy for cytology

Meanwhile please visit an endocrinologist specialist with the result and for expert clinical assessment Councelling and adequate drug prescription

However if the medical treatment fail then you will benefit from surgical interventional procedures

I hope this helps Regards
