What Causes A Large Painful Bump On The Groin Despite Using Neosporin?

Woke up Sunday with a large red node about the size of a nickel in the right groin area. Painful but not itchy (my husband said it looked like an insect bite). Applied Neosporin and bandaids. It is still red and painful, appears to be softening a bit, could it be a blown vein? Had bilateral knee replacements on March 22. Also, started applying ice and it seems to help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The hematoma usually is painless, and there is redness with pain indicate underlying infection through some sort of bacteria most likely. Though ice application has given primary relief, you require a prescription of antibiotic as penicillin or others with anti inflammatory medication as diclofenac with proteolytic enzyme as serratiopeptidase for better resolution and prevent secondary infection or abscess formation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
