What Causes A Large Red Lump At The Site Of Having Tetanus Shot?
Hi, I had a tetanus shot 3 weeks ago. I noticed the next few days a large red lump at the site of the injection. I know that is probably not completely surprising. The redness has completely gone away but I still have a nickel sized lump at that spot. Is there anything I need to be doing or will it eventually go away completely on its own? Lori
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain a red lump at the site of Tetanus shot can be due to Hematoma formation, in case if any blood vessel is pricked leading to accumulation of blood into the soft tissues and it is leading to formation of a lump..
At times the hematoma gets localized and encapsulated and forms a firm lump that is however not anything serious but can take a long time that is of a few months to resolve..
You can start doing alternate warm and cool compresses over the lump.. Apply Heparin gel as it is helpful in faster disruption of blood clot.. It will gradually start regressing in size but in case if there is no improvement in a month consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated...
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.anus shot
