Dear Doctor, I am a 22 year old male, 6ft 1 inch and 12 and a half stone. I went to the doctor on Monday morning, now being wednesday night, with a lump on my throat. I was told it was an infected cyst and prescribed antibiotics (pencillin). The lump as now gone red, grown bigger, become harder and now excitibits pain. I have tomorrow and Friday treatments still to take. Is this normal?
Hello. I do not think that is a cyst !!! It should be a limph node of the mucosa of the pharings (throat). It is becoming bigger/ red and you are having pain due to the infection. Most of the time the cause of the infektion is a Virus so the antibiotics doesnt work on it. Anyway you dont have to worry, take a painkiller like Brufen 400 mg 3xday and after 1 week or 10 days it will go away.
Wish you all the best....
