What Causes A Large, Red-purple Bruise In The Calf Region?

I have a large bruise like cutting a baseball in half and sticking under the skin on the inside of my calf it has been 4 weeks since the injury , I went to the dr 4 weeks ago the bruise red ish purple ish and has not seen much improvement at the contact point when the injury first occurred the swelling went to my foot and lower leg and bruising went from my toes to my inner thigh those bruises have subsided but the point of impact has not
