What Causes A Light Menstrual Period After Taking Contraceptive Injection?

Hello,
I ave a question regarding the contraceptive injection. I was due to have my period this week wic started on friday morning also I had the contraceptive injection on the same day - while having my period - although my period is very light I was wondering whether this is my nornal period or it switched from it to one of the side effects? thank you
