What Causes A Lump Around Cellulitis In The Lower Leg?

Developed cellulitis in my Lowe leg 3 days ago. Now on 4th day of Bactrim oral. Swelling , redness decreased. However, pain remains intermittently stabbing in nature. The wound ihas yellowish center and non draining. And I feel some lump around it. Is this normal? How come MD only prescribed 5 days of Bactrim as opposed to 7?

hello, welcome to healthcaremagic.

first of all you need to know that all doctors try to prescribe antibiotics for least possible effective days to prevent development of drug resistance in bacteria. so giving it for only 5 days is not an issue. if required it can be extended.

secondly, the mass you are talking about seems like an abscess by your description.
ideally it should resolve with antibiotic course and symptomatic treatment.
however if it persists incision and drainage of abscess has to be done.

for that, please visit nearby hospital and explain the situation to your doctor.

hope it helps.
thank you
