What Causes A Lump At An Ear Piercing Site?

i just took my daughters earring out for the first time since she got them pierced The end of January, I can not get a new earring in because of a small lump about the size of a pen tip. Could this be due to an infection or is this sort of thing normal for someone who has had their ears pierced for the first time?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It could be a simple induration at the site of the procedure.

We have to rule out other conditions like keloid and chronic abscess.

Generally, it will settle by itself and no treatment is needed.

If persists, better to consult a surgeon and get evaluated. You might require steroid injection to the site.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
