What Causes A Lump At The Base Of The Skull After A VP Shunt?

My 18 month old is on his 3rd vp shunt. 1st one was placed at 1 week old and this one was placed in Oct. I noticed tonight that he has a small lump near his shunt, (closer to the base of his skull) slightly bigger then pea sized. He is having a chiari decompression surgery in 2 weeks. This lump was not there yesterday. Should I be concerned? Should I call Neuro?
