What Causes A Lump In The Leg After Crush Injury?

hi, i had my lower leg injured in a car accident last year, my leg was fractured midway between knee and ankle, it was a slight break caused by a crush injury . i have noticed a soft lump approx 3" long when standing, and when relaxed i can sort of feel a hole in my leg beneath the skin, i have been told by a semi medical pro (paramedic) that it looks like a hernia.... could this be so?
