What Causes A Lump In The Lower Left Quadrant?

I have a diagnosed hernia in two places, above belly bottom and about 4 inches above the belly button. I have another unknown lump in the lower left quadrant beside the belly button--it is always there--sometimes very hard. It is visible as about a 2 X3 lump. I often can not have a bowel movement for days...the lump is worse. It is uncomfortable but not painful. When I finally can empty my bowels it is normal or diahreah....but when this happens both legs swell....I gain approximately 7-10 pounds of fluid...legs pitting edema. The fluid goes down when bowels better. Happens every 2-3 weeks. What is this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history, it may be a lipoma.

As it is harmless, no need for any active treatment.

But if it is feeling uncomfortable and restrict daily activities then it would be better to remove it after surgeon consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
