What Causes A Lump In The Tongue?

I am a 51 yr old female, 160 lbs znd good health. During my annual dental appt today my dentist saw a lateral tongue bump on the left side, which is about 3mm diatneter in size. It doesn't hurt, nor did I notice it when I brush my teeth. Is this something I need to be concern about?
