What Causes A Lump On Knee After An Injury?

I fell down the stairs this morning. Since then I have been having great difficulty bending my leg without being in agony but keeping it straight. When I fell I landed knee first into a doorframe and I've now got a large lump. Im confused as to what the lump is being honest and what I should do about it...
