What Causes A Lump On Palm Of Hand?

I have a small lump on the inside of my hand below the pinky finger ....I ve had before and goes away....It only hurts by touch like a bruise. I dont recall doing anything out the ordinary. I may have pinched that part of my hand with the type of mop handle i have ...or from sleeping on arm.
