What Causes A Missed Period After Skipping Placebo Pills?

Hello, I am currently taking Tri-Sprintec birth control and immediately skipped over the placebo pills and started a new pack. My cycle is usually normal and did not come on this month, but I am still experiencing PMS (back pain, mood swings, cramping). What exactly is going on?
