What Causes A Mouth Spots Rash With Redness And Abrasion?

my seven year old daughter has red spots in roof of mouth. It almost looks like an abrasion but she says she hasn t had anything in her mouth that would do that. the dentist noticed the red spots and told me about them. it looks like a rash on the roof of her mouth. what could this be?
