What Causes A Neck Knot?

my daughter was seen in the ER last week over a knot on the side of her neck. She was admitted into the hospital for 3 days so antibiotics could be given through IVs, during her stay it started going down. The doctors thought she was well enough to go home and take antibiotics by mouth. The knot started getting bigger once again but also alot redder now. All the tests that was ran all came back negative. She went to her family doctor this past Friday and it got him concern so now she has to see a nose, throat, ear doctor on monday. Her doctor is saying most likely it has to be slanted. What could be the cause of this and why isnt it going down?

Welcome to healthcare magic. This swelling in neck is most likely enlargement of cervical lymph node. As you said it is bigger and red , its most likely some infection in throat. Consult ENT surgeon. Also rule out any infection in scalp region, like dandruff, scaly lesions, or boils on scalp. X-ray chest may reveal any chest infection. How old is your daughter? If all tests are negative then further investigations are necessary to rule out other rare causes.
