Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Painful And Inflamed Lump Under The Breast?
3 days ago I discovered an irritated area under my left breast. A cyst evolved almost immediately and is now at about the size of a silver dollar (US). The redness around the lump and original irritated area is expanding, and hurts. My PA prescribed antibiotics, which I ve been on for a couple of days now, however the cyst is much the same size and the redness and pain has, as I wrote above, expanded. I m wondering if perhaps it may be a sting or bite of some sort? And whether or not it is, should I go into Immeidate Care or the ER if the lump changes or the redness and pain continue to expand?
As per my surgical experience, the cyst is already inflamed with such intense pain and redness. The issue is not responding to antibiotics and supportive medications given by your GP. You require immediate consultation at an ER, where consultant surgeon will evaluate you for possible development of abscess formation and if required he or she may suggest you incision and drainage type of OPD based surgery also to cure at earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
