Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Had a bruise on my left ribs 4 inches below the nipple, Didnt know how I got it. Now I dont think its a bruise, the pain has spread from mmaybe 2 inches to about 6 inches in diameter. this pain is not under the ribs but skin side, some swelling, looks like I broke out (pimples/ red bumps near the spot, several of those. The pain is bad enough I cant sleep, its hot in the area. I have had broken ribs before and the pain is as high, but this does not feel like broken ribs let alone there was no break activity or even a hit there. It just appeared 3 days ago and steadily has gotten worse. the spots have not changed.
The bruise is actually just blood that has escaped the blood vessels because of trauma. Sometimes the trauma that occurs is not noticed and a bruise appears without the person remembering why or how it happened.
It resolves with time. If you wear ill-fitting bras can often observe discolouration in the skin after taking their bras off. This may sometimes alarm them.
This type of bruise, however, may disappear if the use of such bra is discontinued.
Presently I would suggest you wear a loose-fitting bra, avoid touching the affected part and observation. You should be fine by 3 to 4 days.
If it persists after a week or if it spreads I would suggest you see a doctor for examination and further help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
