What Causes A Painful Bump On Side Of The Gums?

I have a painful lump on the side of my gums, it's on my top right side where my wisdom tooth is, but the bump is like, half over my back molar, could my wisdom tooth be growing over my molar? "Underlaying" I think it's called. best way I can describe it, there's no puss/blood coming from it, and it's causing my tongue to hurt as well but my bottom tooth doesn't hurt at all, just an uncomfortable feeling every so often, my whole right side of my jaw hurts and I don't know what to do to at least relieve the pain. Should I consult a dentist and how fast does this need to be looked at? My health card was expired about a month ago and need to go through the whole process to get a new one before I can go to the dentist

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a painful lump over the gums can be due to a few common causes like a Dental Abscess, a gum abscess or a gum boil etc..
Bit in case if your wisdom tooth is not completely erupted it might erupt in wrong direction and can apply as a bulge which is not an uncommon thing for wisdom tooth.
But a confirmatory diagnosis can be given out after a thorough clinical evaluation and treatment can be planned only after that..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician soon and get evaluated and he can also advise you an IOPAR (x Ray) to rule out the exact cause of the lump and treat accordingly..
As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen or Naproxen for pain relief..
In case if it is a lump due to wisdom tooth, extraction will be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
