What Causes A Painful Bump On The Head After An Injury?
Hi...I just fell and hit my head behind my right ear. It has a bump and it s really sore. It hurts to look to the left. Should I be worried at all? Should I go to the ER to get checked out? I have a headache, which is probably normal.
As you mentioned, it would be expected that you would experience pain soon after injury but if the pain is severe then you should be assessed. In addition, if the lump is very significant then you also need to be seen.
There are criteria, called the new orleans criteria which determine if a CT scan is needed. The criteria include:(1) vomiting (2)age greater than 60 (3)headache (4)drug or alcohol use (5)memory loss (6)seizures (7)visible trauma above the clavicle
I hope this helps
