What Causes A Painful Knot On The Right-sided Rib Cage?

I have a fullness/knot type feeling on my right side below my rib cage down to the belly button area. It is not a pain-a discomfort. I feel nauseated at time but have no fever. Have had this a couple days now and increasingly feeling worse. I just don t feel right. Wondering if this is a intestinal thing? I do think it is worse after eating. Does not bother as much standing but more aware when sitting. l

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The most common reason for a lump forming on the ribs is something known as a lipoma, which is a collection of fatty tissue.

Other causes of a lump on your rib could be a bone spur - these are usually hard, fixed and they don't move under your fingers and tender.

Another cause can be an inflamed muscle.

I suggest to doa chest xray for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
