What Causes A Painful Lump Beside The Little Toe?

Hi, I have a question I'm a diebetic Type 2. I have seem to have a hard like a pee on the bottom of my right foot by the pinkie toe. Not on the toe but on the foot close to the edge. Sometime I feel pain when walking in sandles. Could it be the shoes.
