What Causes A Painful Lump On The Jawline Below The Ears?

My grand daughter has a lump forming right at about her jawline about two inches in front of her left ear. It has gotten larger since this morning, and she says it really hurts. Should I take her to the hospital, or wait to see the pediatrician in the morning?

As per your complain painful lump forming on the jawline of your daughter that is infront of the ear seems to be due to Pre- Auricular Lymphadenitis that is swollen pre- auricular [meaning infront the ear] lymph nodes..

Other cause for a lump infront of the ear can be due to infection in parotid salivary gland that is a major salivary gland and also an important structure present in that location..

Yes, you should take her to the hospital and get evaluated and they can advise her to take a script of antibiotics and also do cool compresses over the swelling..
It will help her with pain and infection..

In the morning take her to Paediatrician who can do an MRI or x ray to confirm the exact cause for the swelling and will treat accordingly..
