Sometimes when I swallow food, it feels like it gets stuck about halfway down. It feels painful and often I to wash the food on down with water. I can feel the lump travel down and it is uncomfortable. Does not happen all the time, just occasionally.
Thanks for writing to Health Care magic, I am Dr , Muhammad Ahmad , I have read your question closely, I understand your concern and will be helping you with your health related problem.
Commonly this happens when food is dry or it has not been chewed well, in other cases it can happen if food is hard. If this is not the case then this can happen in people who have had long standing gastric reflux. In such people, due to continuous irritation to the esphagus might get inflamed and with time it can get narrowed , this causes problems while swallowing. I would suggest you not to panic first try to chew food well and moist it well with saliva if this doesn't help do visit your doctor you might need further testing of your esophagus to see what the problem might be. If there is narrowing of lower end of esophagus it can be treated according to severity.
I hope this answered your question, If you have more queries I am happy to answer you. Regards.
Dr.Muhammad Ahmad
