What Causes A Painful, Red Swelling On Collarbone After Insertion Of A Pacemaker?

My friend had a pacemaker put in about a month ago. About 2 weeks after that he noticed that his collarbone on that side is raised up about an inch higher than the other side. It doesn t hurt but looks red and swollen. Could this have been caused by the insertion of the pacemaker under the muscle? The cardiologist did an xray and said the pacemaker is still in the correct place and nothing shows on the xray.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As first-line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
