What Causes A Painfully Swollen Knot On The Neck?

I have a round knot on the right side of my neck. I have had an ultrasound and it is not my thyroid. It has gotten progressively worse over the past 6 months. It is sensitive to the touch but only when it is swallen which happens off and on about every two weeks. I can t eat when it swells, not because it s painful to eat it is painful when it gets bigger. It is pressing or feels as though it is pressing on my vocal chords. I thought it could be salivary stones so I have been sucking on lemons to see if that would loosen the stone. That is also not working. Can you help?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I suspect it may be a lymph node. It is mainly caused by infection or inflammation or cancer.
Your doctor may perform cytopunction and take liquid and see the nature of it and what is causing it.
Treatment depends on cause maybe antibiotics or surgery.
