What Causes A Painless Hard Lump Below The Elbow?

Hi, I have a small, non-moveable bump on my arm. It s about an inch below my elbow (closer to my hand than my shoulder). I think it s on my Ulna? It s maybe the size of a quarter in circumference, but doesn t stick out very much; it s hard rather than softy or squishy. It s more something you can feel, especially if you compare it to the other side. It doesn t hurt. Thanks!

Hello,

Your painless hard bump may be caused due to some injury, bursitis, arthritis, skin allergy, tumors, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, blood tests be done. Your treating doctor can ask you to get a fluid sample taken from your bursa to be examined to detect any malignancy.

You will be accordingly treated. Your symptoms can be indication of olecranon bursitis. A round painless sac on the bony part of the elbow if un-infected is likely to heal with rest and anti-inflammatory medication.

One may use elbow pads and decrease the amount of physical activities to limit pressure on the elbow joint. This allows for faster healing. To clear an infected bursa, it will be treated with antibiotics and analgesics.

If needed the treating doctors may drain the bursa from its fluid or administer steroid injections to reduce inflammation. Surgical intervention will be recommended if needed. If tumor is diagnosed it will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
