What Causes A Palm Spot With Darkening And Dryness?

My husband has a dark spot on the palm of his hands that has now spread to other areas of his hands. It s very dry. I has send a doctor and they are giving him cream and he also got a shot. It look like it was try to go away but it s starting to get bad again, he has had this for almost a year now.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

He seems to have a chronic hand eczema. It usually presents as dry, scaly, itchy patches. There might be painful fissuring of the patches due to thick scaling. I suggest him to use an intensive moisturizer(urea or ammonium lactate based). Use twice daily and every time after he washes his hands with a soap. In addition I suggest him to use a potent topical steroid with otmr without salicylic acid, twice daily, after applying the moisturizer. Continue with the moisturizer after the patches resolve.Topical steroid are prescription drugs.
