What Causes A Penis Shaft Lump With Pus And Pain?

I ve noticed just one red bump not to big show up on the shafts of my penis in the last few days it has a bit of puss in it but doesn t burn or anything. It does hurt when I try to pop it but i think that s because of messing with it lately. I ve never had any kind of break out or other bumps really and never have had any herpe like symptoms. I am sexualy active with my girlfriend but we ve been together for months now and never had any kind of problems. It did show up in an area where there are a few other hairs growing that I tend to shave off now and then.. any suggestions what this could be?

Hello,

You are suffering from a red bump on the penis shaft, it has a little pus in it. Do not touch, scratch or pop, it will cause spread of infection. Cysts, pimples and ingrown hairs cause such bumps. They do not require any treatment and go away in a few weeks. Be careful when you shave. The bumps may not hurt but are sensitive, injury / abrasion may cause pain.

Take care of your hygiene. Do not use harsh soap or body lotion. Be gentle with yourself. Avoid any sexual activity for a couple of days. However, to stay on the safer side you should get STD tests done to detect or rule out genital herpes, syphilis, genital warts, molluscum contagiosum, etc. You will be accordingly treated with antibiotics, antivirals or surgical removal if required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
