What Causes A Pop And Grating Sound Near Ear When Opening Mouth?

I am 30 years old and have psoriatic arthritis so I am used to the sounds of popping in my joints. A few days ago, I opened my mouth and heard a pop accompanied with a grating of cartilidge sound (hard to explain) and what sounded like a rush of air. The sound was heard in the space where my lower jaw meets my ear. It may be a eustachian tube problem but with my history of arthritis, I wasn t sure.

The clicking sound could be because of the disc displacement in the Temporomandibular joint or secondary to arthritis.
Consult a oral physician and get it evaluated, you need to take radiograph to check the status of the bone. Mean while You can take anti inflammatory drugs like piroxicam. You can also take muscle relaxants like chlorzoxazone. Do not eat hard things, do not open your mouth too wide. take soft diet. Give rest to the joint.
