What Causes A Pop And Ringing In The Ear?

ear issue
I was in the store the other day when I heard a loud pop in my right ear. It was followed by a high-pitched ring and a sharp, severe pain. I left the store because the pain was so intense and nearly a half hour later, my ear popped again and the pain dissipated immediately after. What happened?
